Who is behind it

Exotic Reptile Care is written, researched and built by Imad El Khafi, through Khafi Studio LLC. There is no editorial team and no content agency. Every guide on the site and every screen in the app comes from the same desk.

The site exists because reptile care advice online disagrees with itself constantly, often on basics like basking temperatures and how often to dust with D3. Most of it is copied from whichever blog ranked first the year before. The guides here are built the other way round: from veterinary literature, herpetological references and established husbandry sources, checked against each other, with disagreements between sources pointed out rather than smoothed over.

The app exists because those same guides keep telling you to write things down, and nobody does when the notebook is in another room.

How the guides are written

Every guide follows the same process, and it is slower than most reptile blogs bother with. That is deliberate. A wrong temperature range on a care site does real damage to real animals, and the only defence against that is checking.

If you find an error, say so. Corrections from keepers and vets get checked against the sources and applied, and several guides have already been revised that way.

• Numbers are sourced. Temperature, humidity and supplement figures come from veterinary and herpetological references, not from whichever forum post ranks highest.
• Disagreements are flagged. When credible sources give different ranges, the guide says so and explains which to follow and why.
• Recommendations are specific. Where a guide recommends a substrate, supplement or heat source, it says which one and why, not just the category.
• Guides get revised. When better information turns up or a reader flags an error, it is checked against the sources and the guide is updated.

About the app

Exotic Reptile Care is a free app for logging feedings, sheds, weight, health, medications, supplements, vet visits, enclosures and breeding projects, with reminders you set yourself and built in care guides for more than twenty species. It works offline, needs no account, and keeps your records on your device.

It is a one-person project and most of what is in it was asked for by keepers. Vet visit tracking was added because a rescue worker needed it. Feeder inventory came from breeders. Snooze and skip on reminders came from suggestions on Reddit and in App Store reviews. Feature requests still go straight to the person who builds it, which is the main advantage of not being a big company.
